When’s the last time you thought about your home? Not your house or neighborhood or even your country, but the real place you call home. It’s the very Earth you walk upon. It’s the only home we’ve ever known. It’s just there. It can be easy take it for granted.
Humanity is no longer alone in the universe. We’ve become unwitting participants in the affairs of the other worlds that make up this sector of space. It is an exciting if challenging time to be human. As nations compete amongst themselves for the world’s remaining resources, human sovereignty is being challenged by outside forces. Our uninvited guests do not recognize our claims to this world. They want what we have.

Competition in the universe is far more subtle than one might expect. It is rare indeed that foreign powers will militarily invade worlds like ours. The risks and consequences are far too high. Instead, native species are manipulated into accepting the foreign leadership of distant powers. Worlds are taken over without firing a shot.
