This promotes stability, which is crucial for long term survival. However, that is not the only way to do it. There are free societies in the universe. Their freedom gives them a creative edge over their rivals. This leads to better technology and greater ability in the mental environment.
The alien invasion does not believe in human freedom. Not only does it threaten their control of this planet, it also poses a danger to the system of oppression on their own worlds. When humanity develops the technology to travel with great speed among the stars, our freedoms have the very real potential to disrupt the social framework on their own planets.
